Hey Molly! Glad you are digging the posts :)

Sorry for the confusion but the links ARE actually there, they are only shown off on rollover (bad UX I know!) I am going to switch back to more common linking soon, since I've had quite a few people ask for those links, oops! My bad! :)

If you mouse over those two sentences above, you can click into the links! Enjoy the reading :)

Hi Joanna!

I am a really big fan of your blog, and I enjoyed this post a great deal. I too have been attempted to prioritize alone time, but it never seems to work. However, I was wondering if you would be able to share the links of the blog post your friend wrote about spending the first half of this year alone, and also the article your boss fwd'd you about being alone and great leadership. I would really love to read those as well!

Thank you so much (:

I love that you shared your story Carrie! Thank you so much for that. I am taking so many picture down here that people think I am crazy :) I'm hoping to get a post up when I get back that shares how the "alone time experiment" went! :)

Thank you so much John for that last paragraph. I guess I hadn't even looked at it that way. It's hard to remember that "the best way" is unique to each of us. I really appreciate the reminder :)

There are so many people all over the place who LOVE to travel and share their experiences that it sometimes takes a concerted effort to really travel "alone". Solo travel offers a wonderful sense of freedom to see new things, to wander all over the place, to take the time to stay longer than anticipated and soak up awesome new sights and experiences. Traveling solo often means new social circles for a hike, a day or a week in a particular location rather than being alone.

"The goal – to just be me, just wander where I go, see what I see, and not worry so much about it all." Great approach! Go somewhere off the grid for a day. Take the decision to check email, voice mail and text messages out of your hands. They will still be there waiting when the cell phone gets back in range!

Joanna - Incredible adventures are upon you.

And great timing to see such a post. In some ways, I have felt the same lately. This coming week, I get a chance to experiance an element of alone time. While my wife is working as a nurse at the summer camp I grew up at, I will joining her there. But I am not part of the camp. True, I will be working remotely. However, I also have the chance to remove myself and take some much needed alone time. I plan on warly morning runs through the woods, stopping to find a quiet place to meditate and capture some private time with myself.

Can't wait to read all about your trip!

One of my favorite women once told me, while I was having an 'alone' time...when I first moved to Seattle as an intern and didn't know a soul....that being alone is the only time you can truly hear. Being quiet and open is being receptive.

Love it lady. I just know you'll have a GREAT time. Some of my best life moments have been times like these that I was afraid, and just rocked it anyway. You'll be soooooooo glad you did.
PS
Don't forget my panda.

Joanna, this is a beautiful post. Your insights into yourself are definitely to be valued!

I hope as well that the Australian air will be good for you and help give you some much-needed refreshing. Take it from someone who has done a lot of solo travel when I say that my times of traveling by myself through Europe, via airplane, train, bus, and thumb express (aka hitchhiking) have been some of the most freeing and transformative times in my life. When you're alone, especially traveling in a foreign country without a cell phone, you are forced to rely on yourself completely. It has been during these times that I have really found the headspace to really think about what is going on in life and figure out what it is that matters to you and what you want more of.

Also, let me encourage you to not feel bad about "not spending alone time". Some people NEED to be with others to be truly inspired. I think you're one of those people. You're not a bad leader or boss for not spending alone time. Maybe that person needs to spend alone time as that is where they get inspiration. That's awesome and they should do that. But it does NOT mean that you work the same way or that you need to do the same things they do.

Do you. And be the best you that you can be.

Rock on!
